OVERVIEW OF THE FUNCTIONS OF THE POST

Background

The Mahatma Gandhi Institute of Education for Peace and Sustainable Development (MGIEP) is UNESCO's first education-related category 1 institute towards the development and promotion of new approaches to education for a more peaceful and sustainable world. The Institute based in New Delhi, India, aims to contribute to the conceptualization, design and formulation of regional and sub-regional strategies in education for peace and sustainable development, in particular through South-South and triangular North- South-South cooperation. MGIEP plans to provide an integrated approach to education for peace and sustainable development.

Duties and Responsibilities

Under the overall authority of the Director, and the supervision of the Senior Project Officer and in close cooperation with staff in programme, the incumbent shall serve as Associate National Project Officer (Social Media and Communications) in the communications unit working in close collaboration with programme unit assisting in the development and implementation of all external communications for MGIEP focusing on UNESCO MGIEP Website updates, MGIEP's presence on Social Media networks, programme and events promotion, in particular.

Main Activities

Support in management, maintenance and expansion of the MGIEP presence on social media networks, including owned and third party blogs. This includes generating and/or editing MGIEP content in text as well as multimedia formats, for dissemination through social media networks, blogs and other digital platforms.
Keep abreast of innovation/online media developments, trends in social media and contribute to proposal of alternative strategies to leverage, benchmark measure impact of social media activity, increasing the MGIEP news presence and visibility on digital platforms (online, podcasts, mobiles, social media, etc.)
Support in promoting and tracking the MGIEP brand and the work of the organization through social media networks; scan and engage with online communities and fora in the most appropriate format, in accordance with UNESCO policies and legal obligations.
Support the communications team in conceptualizing, creating, revising and updating the MGIEP website regularly with the assistance of an external developer. This includes adapting MGIEP's regular magazine to a web format and supporting the programme teams with any additional website pages they may require.
Contribute to development of ideas for the MGIEP website's blog section on a regular basis.
Support in coordination and communications support to MGIEP's events and lectures
Assist in conceptualization and development of promotional videos to showcase the work of the programme teams for the website.
Assist in developing and managing a photo-bank for MGIEP and continuously expand its contents.
REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS

EDUCATION

Advanced University degree (Master or equivalent) in Communications/ Journalism/ Advertising/ Public relations/Social Media or related areas.

WORK EXPERIENCE

Experience in managing online communities

SKILLS/COMPETENCIES

Strong and analytical communication skills (writing/oral)
Strong interpersonal skills.
Excellent presentation skills;
Good knowledge of audio/visual production techniques and methods; Having broad inter disciplinary understanding of communications, online platforms. Understanding of UNESCO MGIEP programmes would be an asset;
Good understanding of education for peace, sustainable development and education for global citizenship;
Good understanding of international relations and politics will be considered as an asset.
LANGUAGES

Fluency in Hindi and excellent English, both oral and written. Knowledge of another UN official language would be considered as an asset.
